AGCOMS Urges Boosting Agricultural Mechanization in Nigeria

Chijioke Okoli, the Chief Executive of AGCOMS International Trading Limited, asserts that increasing the nation's access to cutting-edge farming technologies and implementing international standards are crucial for reshaping agriculture in the country.

He observed that even though Nigeria currently has an unprecedentedly low level of mechanization, President Bola Tinubu’s administration's emphasis on boosting tractor use enhances the opportunities and future potential within the industry.

At the yearly NAMPO Harvest Day in South Africa, which is the biggest agricultural trade fair in the region, he gave his speech as mentioned in an announcement made on Sunday.

AGCOMS serves as Nigeria’s authorized John Deere dealership, offering tractors, equipment, post-sale assistance, and customised mechanization solutions designed for both small-scale farmers and large agricultural operations.

The business, which specializes in trade support and farm machinery for agriculture, carried the optimistic message regarding the mechanization of Nigeria's farming industry to the 2025 NAMPO event. This was done with the aim of highlighting the sector’s promise to international investors once more.

The present government is rolling out numerous initiatives to enhance agricultural mechanization. This includes distributing more than 30,000 tractors nationwide within half a decade, setting up mechanization centers, and educating tractor drivers and repair technicians.

Okoli stated, "It is crucial for global awareness that even though Nigeria currently has an historically low level of mechanization, the nation's future looks promising due to the emphasis placed by the Tinubu administration on boosting tractor utilization within the country. Therefore, we have all grounds to remain hopeful."

As he stated, "This journey allowed us to observe and gain insights into the latest advancements. The excursion signifies much more than mere participation; it is a strong declaration of our aspirations."

We are dedicated to forming the most informed and progressive group in Africa. Gaining insight into cutting-edge machinery and international standards is essential for reshaping our farming sector.

Considered the premier gathering of its type in the Southern Hemisphere, this event saw an unprecedented 87,191 attendees gather over four days. AGCOMS, the official distributor for the renowned John Deere line of farming machinery, had a presence at the exhibition with a team comprising ten core members headed by Okoli.

At the event, a group from Niger State also made an appearance. This state is notable for being at the vanguard of mechanization among states within Nigeria. The leader of the state’s contingent was Mr Sammy Adigun, who serves as the CEO of Niger Foods.

In the meantime, a standout feature of this year's exhibition was the unveiling of the John Deere 9RX 830 hp Tractor, recognized as the most powerful tractor ever presented in Africa.

This equipment features powerful engines, four-tracked maneuverability, advanced tech solutions, and premium comfort for operators. It's built for top-tier farming activities requiring peak performance, efficiency, and accuracy in extensive land management tasks.

The declaration asserts that this engineering achievement underscores John Deere’s worldwide dominance in agricultural mechanization, with AGCOMS honored to lead the way in introducing these innovations to Nigeria.

The AGCOMS team interacted with major Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partners, examined advanced machinery options, and strengthened ties vital for Nigeria’s continuous push towards agricultural mechanization.

In line with its dedication to national progress, AGCOMS restated its pledge to enhance its team’s capabilities, educate emerging experts, and bring state-of-the-art approaches to agricultural practitioners in Nigeria.

The company's participation in NAMPO underscored its position as a key promoter of mechanization aligned with Nigeria’s goals for food security. Through ongoing collaborations at both federal and state levels, AGCOMS continues to be well-positioned to spearhead the shift from traditional farming practices to contemporary agricultural methods.

Hosted yearly by Grain SA, NAMPO stands as the leading event in Africa for showcasing advancements in agricultural technology, fostering innovation, and building partnerships within the industry. In 2025, this gathering welcomed more than 750 participants from around the world, including machinery producers, tech-driven agriculture firms, seed creators, and financial entities.
