Nigerian street pop artist, Akinbiyi Abiola Ahmed Popularly known as Bella Shmurda, he has shared his experience of losing money on a song that failed to gain popularity.
During an interview with Afrobeats Intelligence On Friday, Bella disclosed that he had once invested $40,000 in a song which surprisingly failed to achieve success.
Bella mentioned that he continued testing the song even after getting a message about it in his dreams.
"I consider myself a visionary, someone who can foresee things. There was a particular track scheduled for release which I ended up postponing. In a dream, it became clear to me that my subsequent song needed to resonate with the streets. Clearly, 'Alright, your next composition must capture the essence of the streets.' To confirm this insight, I decided to put out another tune first as a test run. Ensuring accuracy meant releasing something unconventional rather than appealing to popular tastes. That initial attempt did poorly despite spending $40,000 on marketing. However, when I finally launched an authentic street anthem without investing more than about 20 million [currency], the song climbed all the way to number two nationally," he explained.
