CM Maryam Orders All Restaurants and Wedding Halls in Punjab to Register

Lahore, Pakistan, June 9 — Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed for the registration of every restaurant and banquet hall across Punjab. This initiative seeks to bring these businesses into the formal economy and expand the provincial tax base. The directive came following a significant gathering where this measure was agreed upon. It encompasses both smaller venues as well as larger ones.

Mayor Maryam emphasized that this plan does not involve increasing taxes; instead, it aims at achieving equity within the system. She dismissed every suggestion to raise current taxation levels, underscoring that the administration would prevent additional fiscal strain on citizens. “Our approach will not penalize individuals who comply with their tax obligations while permitting tax dodgers to escape unscathed,” she declared.

The objective of the new policy is to incorporate more enterprises into the official economic framework, enabling the administration to enhance services without imposing extra burdens on those with lower and moderate incomes. Maryam Nawaz pointed out that it was unjust for an individual making Rs. 200,000 annually to be taxed when others who earn much larger sums avoid being part of the tax system altogether.

In addition, she instructed the Punjab Revenue Authority, Mines & Minerals Department, and various crucial organizations to investigate new avenues for generating revenue. She stated her aim was to increase the province’s earnings in a manner that shields common citizens from economic strain.

Authorities claim that this enrollment initiative will enhance food safety, regulate businesses more effectively, and boost service standards throughout Punjab. The measure aims to simplify processes and encourage openness in areas that have historically functioned with minimal supervision.

The administration intends to initiate the registration procedure shortly, providing comprehensive instructions specifically designed for business proprietors. Additionally, officials will conduct educational initiatives aimed at ensuring a seamless and equitable experience for every party concerned.
