Fake Marshall Speakers and Smartwatches Seized in Hanoi: A Massive Facebook Scam Uncovered

The Hanoi police have busted a group selling counterfeit products on Facebook including fake Marshall and Fujisu speakers, smartwatches and vacuum cleaners and seized 25,500 items.

Five individuals, spearheaded by Le Huu Minh, aged 30, are under investigation for peddling counterfeit items. The total value of the seized merchandise is approximately VND22 billion (USD$844,000), according to police statements made on Friday.

The team ran a Facebook page for selling items, primarily audio gear allegedly produced by the well-known UK company Marshall.

To commemorate what they claimed as "10 years since the founding" of the Marshall brand, they conducted bogus promotional events, providing purported discounts of up to 70% on their range of speakers, headphones, and amplifiers.

They sold their products via a counterfeit site called marshall-store.com, which closely mimics the design of the genuine Marshall website.

Purchasers would obtain the items via delivery services; however, the vendors often switched their logistics providers to evade detection by law enforcement.

A majority of counterfeit items have price tags below VND1 million ($38), which is significantly cheaper compared to authentic versions.

Included among the confiscated items were 12,200 smartwatches, 6,000 Marshall earbuds, 1,700 Marshall Emberton speakers, and 2,550 Fujitsu vacuum cleaners.
