Ikeja Computer Village Goes High-Tech: Biometrics Tackles Crime in International Edition (English)

The management at Computer Village, Ikeja, has initiated a biometric registration and counting process aimed at cleaning up the area, reducing illegal activities, and reviving investors' trust.

The Iyaloja, Abisola Azeez, stated in an announcement that this initiative forms part of a larger rebranding campaign aimed at tackling problems such as mobile theft, deceitful repair personnel, and inferior products.

It was mentioned that "Following a recent security breach, which prompted the Lagos State Task Force to contemplate shutting down the entire marketplace, the market leaders decided on this action. Nonetheless, representatives from the market stepped in to protect lawful merchants. According to the revised regulations, only those who have been officially registered and possess identification cards visibly placed at their booths will be permitted to conduct business."

Approved street setups will be restricted to plastic chairs, serving glasses, and umbrellas, with wooden constructions and open flames prohibited to minimize fire risks."

Baba Oja, Adeniyi Olasiji, highlighted the marketplace's tarnished reputation and underscored enhanced safety protocols such as CCTV installations, emergency notification systems, and greater cooperation with police authorities.

Leaders such as Prince Tony Nwokeze, Ralph Chibuzor, Ben Onuorah, Nofiu Akinsanya, and Ikani Tony also endorsed this initiative, emphasizing its importance in turning Computer Village into a well-organized, internationally competitive technology center.

The registration process will conclude within two months, following which only confirmed traders will be permitted to function.

In the meantime, Fidelix Ezeugwu, the Executive Secretary of the Ikeja Market Board, highlighted the cohesive leadership within the market, which includes members from four principal ethnic groups. He also stressed the significance of current information to meet international benchmarks.

He stated, "The extra improvements consist of installing walkie-talkies for better communication, upgraded street lighting, and CCTV cameras to oversee activities."

These enhancements are designed to establish Computer Village as a global marketplace akin to renowned international centers such as Dubai and Singapore.
