Ikeja Computer Village Introduces Biometric Registration to Combat Crime - International Edition (English)

The management at Computer Village, Ikeja, has initiated a biometric registration and counting process aimed at cleaning up the market, reducing illegal activities, and reviving investors' trust.

Abisola Azeez, the Iyaloja, stated in an announcement that this program forms part of a larger rebranding campaign aimed at tackling problems such as mobile theft, unscrupulous repair persons, and inferior products.

It was mentioned that "Following a recent security breach, which prompted the Lagos State Task Force to contemplate shutting down the entire marketplace, the market leaders declared this change. Nonetheless, representatives from the market stepped in to protect lawful merchants. As per the updated regulations, only those who have been officially registered and possess identification cards prominently displayed at their stalls will be permitted to conduct business."

Authorized street setups will only include plastic chairs, display glasses, and umbrellas, with wooden constructions and open flames prohibited to minimize fire risks."

Olasoji, popularly known as Baba Oja, highlighted the marketplace's tarnished reputation and underscored the implementation of enhanced safety protocols such as surveillance cameras, emergency notification systems, and greater coordination with police authorities.

Leaders such as Prince Tony Nwakeze, Ralph Chibuzor, Ben Onuorah, Nofiu Akinsanya, and Ikani Tony also endorsed this initiative as crucial for turning Computer Village into a well-organized, internationally competitive technology center.

The registration process will conclude within two months, following which only authenticated traders will be permitted to function.

In the meantime, Fidelix Ezeugwu, who serves as the executive secretary of the Ikeja Market Board, highlighted the cohesive leadership within the market, which includes members from four principal ethnic groups. He also stressed the significance of current information to ensure compliance with international benchmarks.

He stated, "Further improvements consist of installing walkie-talkies for better communication, upgrading street lighting, and adding CCTV cameras to oversee activities."

These enhancements are designed to establish Computer Village as a global marketplace on par with renowned international centers such as Dubai and Singapore.
