New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): On Sunday, IndiGo revealed additional orders for 30 more Airbus A350 planes, adding to their current order of 30 from the same European aerospace company. The airline made this announcement regarding the new purchases. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers The delivery of these aircraft is set to begin in 2027. "Last year, IndiGo inked a contract with Airbus to acquire 30 A350-900 models, including 30 confirmed units and options for 70 more; today, we’re finalizing our plan to convert 30 of those options into binding contracts," explained the CEO during a media briefing. "Right here and now, we’ll formalize this through signing an MOU, which we'll do immediately,” continued the CEO as he executed the agreement with Airbus representatives. In April 2024, IndiGo ordered 30 additional A350 jets, retaining the opportunity to buy up to 70 extra planes later. Currently, they have approximately 900 airplanes awaiting delivery in upcoming years. Furthermore, back in June 2023, IndiGo made history by placing what would become the biggest one-time airplane acquisition by any carrier: a staggering order totaling 500 aircraft from Airbus. This brought their pending list of undelivered A320 family jets close to reaching nearly 1,000 units, expected to roll out across several coming decades. These transactions significantly deepen and broaden the collaborative bond between IndiGo and Airbus—an alliance unmatched both qualitatively and quantitively according to prior statements issued by the company itself. With its present lineup bolstered further by impending arrivals of around 1,000 new A320 series jets plus today’s latest commitments, IndiGo stands poised not just for expansive growth within India's airspace landscape but also plays a pivotal role towards achieving governmental goals aimed at establishing national supremacy in commercial air travel.
