Injured Pilgrims: 30 Kenyans Hurt in Bus Accident Post-Martyrs Day Celebrations in Uganda

Uganda: A calm trip from Namugongo took a devastating turn for 30 Kenyan pilgrims who were returning after attending the Martyr's Day festivities, resulting in tragedy and widespread sorrow.

On Wednesday, June 14th, early in the morning, a bus crash took place as the driver lost control of the vehicle. This led to the bus flipping several times until it came to rest in a ditch.

As reported by the Uganda Times, the bus, which belongs to Kasima Mixed Secondary School, was carrying 51 people when it flipped over on the Malaba-Jinja highway.

Eyewitnesses stated that prior to the incident, the driver tried to steer clear of a speeding lorry coming from Jinja towards Tororo.

“The bus and the truck were traveling in the same direction. The truck was going too fast, and as the bus driver attempted to yield on the narrow roadway, the bus swerved and ended up overturning,” stated the witness.

The 30 passengers who sustained injuries were transported to Tororo General Hospital, where they are undergoing medical care.
