@Superpidge mentioned: 'A new series called "The Waterfront" is set to premiere! Created by Kevin Williamson, this show reminds me strongly of Ozark.'

@AlexisD6575 commented on the trailer saying, "Initially, I was drawn to it due to Melissa Benoist being part of the cast. However, the entire ensemble truly captivated me further, and frankly, it seems like the series has the potential to be incredibly enjoyable!"

Viewers were equally surprised to spot That '70s Show actor Topher Grace in the trailer, with @Brent0034 commenting: “Was anyone else struck by how Eric Forman seems to have matured and is now apparently overseeing his own illicit business?”

The show has drawn comparisons to Ozark primarily due to their shared streaming platform, Netflix, as well as for their similar premise—both narratives revolve around a typical family being entangled in illegal narcotics activities.

In "Ozark," the Byrde family relocates to the eponymous area to help wash money for a major Mexican drug syndicate, which results in multiple intense showdowns.

Kevin Williamson, who created The Waterfront, stated Netflix 'We've never really had a storyline focused on the commercial fisherman portrayed dramatically within a family drama setting.'

'[The fishing industry] is gradually slipping out of their grasp. [The main characters] will go to great lengths to keep it — it symbolizes their family legacy. Additionally, they have deep concerns for the town’s well-being, as numerous individuals rely on them.'

He went on, discussing the storyline where the characters must rapidly amass substantial wealth: "The narrative revolves around several individuals who commit errors, engage in nefarious activities, and subsequently find themselves becoming increasingly entangled with each passing moment."

When so many individuals engage in negative actions, it's truly heartening when they manage to perform at least one positive act that can restore our optimism.

Kevin disclosed that the narrative of the series partly draws from his personal life and autobiography, featuring elements related to his father’s past involvement in the fishing business.

'The fishing sector was overturned in the 1980s – my father struggled to support us. Then, somebody approached him saying, "If you perform this particular task, you could earn substantial amounts of money," which was difficult to refuse.'

“My father—a truly decent person—succumbed to temptations involving illegal activities and faced some difficulties as a result. However, those actions provided for our needs and enabled me to attend college.”

Stream "The Waterfront" on Netflix starting June 19.
