Sarah Nkansah Boateng Named Eastern Region's Top Midwife

Sarah, who boasts more than three years of hands-on clinical practice, is renowned for her courageous and empathetic methods in enhancing reproductive healthcare access for marginalized women, particularly marketplace vendors and young females. This facility provides various health services including physical examinations, lab tests, ultrasound scans, counseling sessions, and an efficient referral process. Since its inception, this project has benefited more than 70 women, with numerous participants having never previously accessed prenatal care.

Additionally, international partners such as the Hanga SRH Program from the Rwanda Ministry of ICT and Innovation along with Densu Associates have contributed to her initiatives via financial support, mentoring, and increased exposure.

One of her key contributions is the Obaa+ health application, which serves as an online tool designed to help women manage their menstruation cycles and pregnancies. It offers educational resources about reproductive health along with virtual consultations. This app features a sophisticated data analytics system aimed at identifying risky pregnancies so they can be addressed promptly. Additionally, it provides support through text messages and telephone calls for those who do not use smartphones, thereby making sure that every segment of the population has access to these services.

Alongside her clinical and business endeavors, Sarah also dedicates time as a volunteer columnist for the publication. Business & Financial Times , where she contributes articles on maternal and child health topics biweekly.

She likewise guides budding midwives, assisting them in honing their leadership and innovative abilities within the rapidly changing medical field. Due to her extensive knowledge, she has been invited to speak at various national events such as GTV, where she enlightens audiences about topics related to reproductive and maternal health.

Sarah’s title as the top midwife in the Eastern Region not only earns her a spot at the national Nurses and Midwives of the Year awards but also gives her an opportunity to champion inclusive, technology-driven, and community-centered health care practices. To her, this honor goes beyond individual achievement—it serves as a stage to promote these important causes.

She has received acclaim regionally and globally, having been recognized as one of Ghana’s 100 Most Inspirational Young Change-Movers, among the Top 50 Under 30 African Changemakers by She Leads Africa, and she was honored with the Innovation in Health Award from Zenith Global Health (UK).
