Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a prominent player in the waste management sector under the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), has taken significant steps to deepen its presence across Africa. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at addressing sanitation challenges while fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability.
As part of this expansion, the Jospong Group, led by its Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, recently visited Mombasa, Kenya. During this visit, high-level discussions were held with the Governor of Mombasa County, H.E. Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir. The meeting took place on July 2, 2025, and focused on forming a strategic partnership between Mombasa and Zoomlion Ghana Limited. The goal is to enhance sustainable waste management practices in the region.
The collaboration aims to tackle sanitation issues and create economic opportunities for local communities. Dr. Agyepong emphasized that the mission is to transform Africa’s sanitation challenges into engines of opportunity and growth. He stated, “Africa is ready, and Mombasa is a key partner in this transformative agenda.” According to him, the expansion into Kenya is not solely about growth but also about sharing experience, building local capacity, and supporting African-led development.
Governor Nassir expressed strong interest in working with Zoomlion and the Jospong Group, acknowledging their proven track record across the continent. He highlighted the need for practical solutions that can deliver immediate impact while laying the foundation for long-term environmental resilience. The partnership is expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and promote environmental sustainability in the region.
In addition to the meeting with the Governor, Dr. Agyepong was warmly received by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi. This meeting was part of Zoomlion’s Africa Expansion Project, which seeks to explore innovative waste management solutions tailored to Kenya’s specific needs.
During the discussion, Dr. Agyepong showcased Zoomlion’s extensive expertise in integrated waste management, highlighting the company’s impact in Ghana and other African countries, as well as its growing presence in Asia. Dr. Barasa expressed keen interest in the model, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to partnerships that drive green growth and circular economy transitions. She stressed the crucial role of private sector innovation in addressing Kenya’s environmental challenges.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to convene a technical follow-up session with the Ministry and Kenya’s National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). The objective is to explore how the Jospong model can support Kenya’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework and broader environmental goals. Key stakeholders from the Ministry, including Mr. Njoroge Mbitu, Deputy Director for Waste Management and Pollution Control, and Ms. Linah Meeme, Head of Legal Affairs, joined the meeting.
