Kenyan woman with disability blasts man for allegedly swindling her car money, leaks WhatsApp chats

  • Juliet Awuor wanted to upgrade her car and was excited after her ex-schoolmate at Daystar University asked her to sell her current car so he could help her get another
  • According to Juliet, she folded everything out and made major sacrifices financially to get the KSh 1.2 million needed to buy the car
  • Four months later, she is yet to get her car and now fears that it is going to be auctioned. She called out Mutungati Chandi for not keeping his end of the deal, and he responded

Nairobi: Juliet Awuor is a woman in pain, as months after selling her car to top up and get another, she has not yet received the new one she needs for work.

In an emotional Facebook post, Juliet accused her car dealer, whom she studied with at Daystar University, of not delivering her car despite her paying for it in full.

Juliet told D'moneyTalk.co.ke that Mutungati Chandi made her sell her car and add her savings, plus half of her salary for six months. Now, her car has been stuck at the port since May and risks being auctioned.

What happened to Juliet's car?

According to Juliet, Chandi got a client who needed a Mercedes-Benz to pay the deposit to Antony Karanja's (JS Motors Account). He instructed Antony Karanja that the owner of the Benz is also the consignee for the Vezel.

JS Motors subcontracted another Japanese company with offices in Mombasa, and the name is on the Bill of Lading he shared in the comments.

"After insisting on finding out about the delays, the Mercedes-Benz owner found out that he was importing two cars. (That's another major fraud case; I will not get into it here.)," alleged Juliet.
"My persistence compelled Chandi to give my details to Karanja as the Vezel consignee. At some point, I felt I was working for him. He would make obvious mistakes that I could catch and ask about quickly. However, if someone is pursuing your money dishonestly, they can deceive you. Chandi, you say the car is in Mombasa, who paid for it to come to Mombasa?" asked Juliet.

While at it, Juliet is asking about the proceeds of the sale of her Toyota Passo as she wired the money to you because, according to our agreement, it was a trade-in vehicle.

"Was your profit 1.2 million?" she asked.
"I forgot to mention this detail. You insisted I send money to your M-Pesa because you were trying to avoid losing money during the exchange process. But I have all the transactions on my bank statements," she revealed.

Why hasn't Juliet's car been auctioned?

Apparently, Juliet's car risks being auctioned, and the only reason it hasn't been auctioned is that it was registered in her name.

She claims that Chandi never paid the money she was giving him and conned someone else into paying the down payment for her car. Now he says that he delivered the car to Mombasa.

"I believe I have been patient enough with you. I refuse to have panic attacks just thinking of the injustice you have done to me and the financial mess you have put me through," said Juliet.

Juliet accused Chandi of playing the victim and claiming to experience challenges with cash flow, while she is forced to pay extra port charges.

"I trusted Chandi with my money because he is a Daystarian. Sharing this here has proven to me that I am not his only victim. Thank you, everyone, who has reached out with confirmation. Sorry that you also fell victim," Juliet alleged, while warning against Motokaa Auto Experts and Firstclass Import Service.

So where does all this leave Juliet?

At this point in time, Juliet is focused on her mental health and chooses not to die of depression but to start rebuilding with God on her side.

"That's why I have chosen to speak out. I have a young baby depending on me. I know he will try and block me after this. Daystar University students, be warned. Chandi is a fraudster," she claimed.
"National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), here is a criminal stealing even from persons with disabilities. I have been working extra hard with one hand, depriving myself of extra luxuries to have a car I can move with. Now I don't have a car, and my projects have stalled, and this is purely due to the greed of one individual," she added as a mental breakdown loomed.

What did Chandi say about Juliet's car?

D'moneyTalk.co.ke spoke to Chandi, and he denied that he had swindled Juliet out of her KSh 1.2 million, choosing to set the record straight.

He said that the supplier was fully paid, and that is the only reason the vehicle was cleared and arrived in Mombasa.

"If no payment had been made, it would still be stuck at the source in Japan. Any suggestion otherwise is simply untrue. The KSh 1.2 million she paid went directly toward securing and shipping the vehicle in her name," said Chandi.
"It was never enough to cover CIF, clearance, or local port obligations. What remains are the CIF charges of over USD 4,000, plus local clearance fees in Kenya, obligations that still have to be settled before the vehicle is released," he said, adding that she still possesses the Bill of Lading, QISJ, Export Certificate, registration papers, and current photos of the vehicle.

Why can't Chandi finalise the deal?

At this moment, Chandi said that he could not finalize the deal because he can't pay the extra USD 4,000 alone.

"I arranged for and paid certain costs upfront where I could, and where I could not, I explained why I could not cover them from my pocket. I have never conned a third party to pay for someone else’s down payment. If a third party made a payment, I can show the paper trail and explain the arrangement," he said.
"The vehicle is at the port because the outstanding clearance/port charges have not been completed — this is a financial shortfall issue, not proof of criminal intent. I have been trying to work with the buyer and the agents to get the vehicle cleared as quickly as possible," he added.

How is Chandi addressing cash flow gaps?

According to Chandi, he asked for leniency and time to resolve the cash flow gaps and was sorry if that came across as excuses.

He also invited people who had stepped forward, saying that they were similarly affected, to share verifiable evidence directly with him so they can sort it out properly.

"I admit openly I’ve made mistakes along the way, but what has been most painful is the damage from public posts. They’ve made a hard situation even harder for me," he said.
"I feel helpless, but I’m not your enemy. I am asking that we stop twisting facts, stop the public attacks, and finalize the clearance professionally. The only thing standing in the way now is the settlement of the remaining overheads," he said.
