(UW/R), June 02, GNA - During its sixth convocation ceremony over the weekend, the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) celebrated the graduation of its inaugural batch of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) students from the institution.

In total, 72 students—comprising 51 male and 21 female graduates—completed their studies in Agricultural Engineering, Hospitality, Catering and Social Science, Mechanical Engineering, as well as Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management through the BTech program.

Furthermore, the institution awarded degrees to 495 students, including 313 male and 182 female candidates enrolled in different programs of the Higher National Diploma (HND). This increased the overall number of graduates to 568.

Mr. Cyprian Daguah, who holds a degree in BTech in Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management, was named the top graduating student with an impressive Grade Point Average of 4.71.

At the gathering in Wa, Professor Elias N. K. Sowley, who serves as the Vice Chancellor of the DHLTU, mentioned that the institution presently provides eleven bachelor’s degree programs.

He mentioned that the institution has been granted approval to offer a Master of Technology program in Mechanical Engineering and Management as well as another Master of Technology program in Education and Conservation Agriculture, both set to commence in the upcoming academic term.

Professor Sowley mentioned that the Master of Science program in Construction Engineering and Management is nearing completion of its accreditation process.

He further disclosed the creation of two master’s programs: Master of Science in Agroecology and Food Systems, as well as Master of Science in Waste Management. These will be developed through European Union-backed initiatives that the institution oversees.

He requested the government to provide the university with financial approval so they can hire more personnel to manage the BTech programs offered by the institution.

"Prof. Sowley mentioned that the university has entered into 30 memorandums of understanding with different organizations, educational bodies, and industrial collaborators. These agreements are designed to strengthen cooperation focused on improving the standards of our academic courses, encouraging research and innovation, as well as offering significant chances for both our students and teaching staff," he explained.

He mentioned that the institution had formed an alliance with the City of Glasgow College in the United Kingdom as part of the Global Skills Partnership Project funded by the British Council. This collaboration aimed to encourage the exchange of faculty members between the two educational bodies.

Professor Julius N. Fobil, who serves as the Chairperson of the University Council, stated that technical universities such as the DHLTU have the responsibility to generate individuals equipped with hands-on expertise in science and technology sectors, thereby aiding the country’s social and economic progress.

He urged the graduates to utilize the knowledge and abilities they gained from the university to make a difference in both their own lives and society as a whole.

Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, assured efforts towards facilitating the provision of suitable dormitories for the school.

He praised the employees and leadership of the DHLTU for their dedication to excellence despite numerous infrastructure and logistics hurdles.
