The University of Ghana (UG) has entered into a strategic alliance with Maxwell Investments Group (MIG) and the Africa School of Entrepreneurship (ASOE) aimed at boosting leadership skills among Ghanaian students. The collaboration was officially documented through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on Tuesday, March 3rd. rd In June 2025, the partners agreed to offer practical, value-driven entrepreneurship education not only inside but also outside the classroom setting.
At the event, Professor Justice Bawole, who serves as the dean of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), emphasized the importance for graduates to move past mere book learning and adopt real-world leadership skills.
The collaboration seeks to cultivate abilities that go further than conventional education. Students should be prepared to engage in critical thinking, uphold ethical standards, and demonstrate courageous leadership upon graduation," stated Professor Bawole. "Our objective is to guarantee that graduates not only possess scholarly expertise but also have the capability to take charge in both corporate environments and societal contexts.
The Africa School of Entrepreneurship (ASOE) will serve as the operational wing of this initiative, offering intensive educational programs like mentoring sessions, leadership seminars, and entrepreneurship workshops. These resources aim to support learners from all disciplines in grasping practical issues, enhancing business adaptability, and seizing chances within today’s intricate economic landscape.

Dr. Maxwell Ampong, CEO of Maxwell Investments Group, characterized the initiative as "a long-term commitment to developing human resources that fits within our company's strategy for comprehensive sector growth." He emphasized, "Our aim is to mentor, finance, and nurture upcoming leaders. Similar to how a technology platform operates, other business collaborators can seamlessly integrate into this effort," adding that they are pleased to receive complete backing from the university.
The attendees from the University of Ghana comprised the current and future deans of the University of Ghana Business School, department heads, assistant registrars, professors, administrative leaders, as well as the sitting and upcoming presidents of the UGBS Business House Junior Common Room (BHJCR).
Stakeholders from various sectors within the MIG ecosystem expressed their backing during this gathering, as several have already engaged in internships, mentoring programs, and skill-sharing initiatives. Among those present at the occasion were representatives from entities such as UN Global Compact Network Ghana, Zenith Bank (Ghana) Ltd., Deloitte Ghana, WIAD under MOFA—the Ministry of Food and Agriculture—AfCFTA Young Entrepreneurs Federation, Legal Emporium Ghana, Metropolitan Insurance Ghana Ltd., Pan-African Savings and Loans Ghana, Wilmar Ghana Limited, Koranteng & Koranteng Legal Advisors, African Brand Warrior, Finfact Global, Tradeline Consult, along with additional organizations.
This project aims to serve as an example of how academic institutions and businesses can collaborate to nurture young leaders, driving significant national progress.
