Consumer Electronics Importers Tour Energy Commission

Building Collaboration for Energy Efficiency in Ghana

Executives from the Consumer Electronics and Home Appliances (CEHA) Alliance recently visited the Energy Commission in Accra to meet with the Acting Executive Secretary, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum. The meeting took place last week on Wednesday and was aimed at formally introducing the association to the new leadership of the Commission.

During the meeting, Mrs. Biritwum welcomed the CEHA Alliance delegation and expressed her enthusiasm about engaging with such a key stakeholder in the energy sector. She shared insights into the Commission’s ongoing initiatives to improve energy efficiency across the country. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure sustainable energy use and support the nation's long-term development goals.

Nii Ayi Hyde, the President of the CEHA Alliance, extended the association’s warm regards to the new Executive Secretary. He also reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s work in regulating the consumer electronics and electrical appliances market. This collaboration is seen as essential for promoting responsible consumption and ensuring that products meet energy efficiency standards.

Mr. Hyde was accompanied by Ramesh Sadhwani, who serves as an Advisor to the Executive Committee of the Alliance, and Jerry Halm, the Alliance’s Executive Secretary. Additionally, representatives from leading importers of electronics brands, including Hisense, Samsung, Pearl, and Binatone, were present at the meeting. Their participation highlights the importance of the CEHA Alliance in shaping industry practices and fostering dialogue between stakeholders.

The Energy Commission was represented by several senior officials from the Energy Efficiency Regulations team. Among them were Assistant Manager Hubert Nsor Zan, Manager Richard Donkor, and Deputy Director Kennedy Amankwa. Their presence underscored the Commission’s interest in strengthening partnerships with industry leaders to achieve common objectives.

The CEHA Alliance, which was officially registered in October 2023, plays a vital role in representing major importers and dealers of consumer electronics and home appliances in Ghana. As a trade association, it aims to promote best practices, advocate for policy improvements, and ensure that the market operates in a fair and efficient manner.

This recent engagement between the CEHA Alliance and the Energy Commission marks an important step toward enhancing cooperation between regulatory bodies and industry players. By working together, both parties can contribute to a more sustainable and energy-efficient future for Ghana. The alliance’s continued support for the Commission’s initiatives is expected to play a significant role in driving progress in this area.

Through regular dialogue and collaborative efforts, the CEHA Alliance and the Energy Commission are well-positioned to address challenges related to energy consumption, product quality, and market regulation. This partnership not only benefits the industry but also supports the broader goal of achieving national energy sustainability.
