Tragic Truck Collision on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Leaves One Dead
A fatal accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Car Park-C section, resulting in the death of an unidentified truck driver. The incident took place on Tuesday during the early hours, when a moving truck collided with a stationary vehicle, leading to severe damage and the driver being trapped in the wreckage.
An eyewitness named Akeem Ade described the events to local media. According to Ade, the collision happened when the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another truck that was parked or stopped. He expressed concern about the driver's survival, stating, “I doubt if he can survive it.” Ade also mentioned that emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the accident.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed the details of the crash. Their spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, provided information about the vehicles involved. One of the trucks was a DAF model with registration number AK 658 XD, while the other was a MACK truck bearing the plate AME 58 XC. Akinbiyi explained that the driver of the interlock bricks-laden truck attempted to make a turn at the Car Park-C but broke down in the process. This led to the second truck, which was carrying beer, crashing into the stationary vehicle due to excessive speed and loss of control.
According to Akinbiyi, both drivers were involved in the accident, but only one of them lost his life. The deceased driver was reportedly trapped in the wreckage and was taken to the Idera Morgue in Sagamu for further procedures. The road was temporarily closed to a single lane to allow for debris removal and to facilitate the recovery of the body.
The two accidented trucks were later towed by the Redeemed Police Station for further investigation. The agency emphasized the importance of maintaining safe driving practices and ensuring that vehicles are in good condition to prevent such incidents.
This tragic event is not the first of its kind at this location. Earlier, on April 18, a similar accident occurred at the same Car Park-C section. A Mazda bus, traveling at high speed, collided with a truck that was making a turn, resulting in two fatalities and two people sustaining serious injuries.
