Accra, June 2, GNA - The government is dedicated to enhancing research and development efforts with the aim of positioning scientific inquiry at the forefront of socioeconomic progress, according to Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST).
He stated that the government recognized the necessity of reassessing investments in research and was prepared to increase its efforts to make more funds accessible for promoting sustainable research.
He spoke during the Evidence for Innovation (E4I) workshop, which was organized through the collaboration of CSIR-Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (CSIR_STEPRI) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
The workshop centered around the theme of 'Programs and Policies for Fostering Sustainable Enterprise Ecosystems.' It gathered collaborators from various IDRC initiatives focused on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups, as well as stakeholders involved in research, development, and impact investment, amongst numerous others.
The Minister emphasized that higher education and research institutions play a crucial role in maintaining a strong and sustainable dialogue.
In Ghana, we take pride in supporting initiatives that advance this cause. Whether through digital uptake programs aimed at small and medium-sized businesses or offering specific encouragements for female-owned ventures, we strive to implement insights promptly. We learn continuously from endeavors like those showcased by CSIR-STEPRi and various other groups.
He urged governmental organizations to improve dialogue to establish essential frameworks for cooperative alliances and connections, facilitating access to private funding aimed at bolstering the scientific sector.
During her opening remarks, Dr. Wilhelmina Quaye, the Director of CSIR-STEPRI, highlighted that CSIR-STEPRI has a distinctive part to play in promoting socioeconomic growth via policy research in the areas of science, technology, and innovation (STI).
She mentioned that the E4I Workshop aims to tackle major obstacles, investigate groundbreaking solutions, and strive to enhance connections between various innovation agencies.
"We are tasked with fostering cooperation among researchers and innovation bodies, strengthening ties within the Evidence for Innovation (E4I) project group, identifying fresh avenues to boost adoption of our findings, and capitalizing on chances to involve private entities such as incubators, impact investors, small and medium enterprises, and additional industry associations," she further stated.
She emphasized that forming robust ties between innovation organizations was essential for promoting cooperation, exchanging assets, expanding new ideas, shaping regulations, and representing the requirements of small and medium-sized enterprises. This approach would help create significant answers aimed at boosting economic progress.
The E4I program aimed at producing fresh data on how well innovation assistance schemes work for small businesses and their effects across different groups in society. It also encouraged teamwork among scholars and organizations focused on fostering innovations, along with boosting connections and skills needed for assessing and putting into practice strategies related to innovation.
